PAICAR is the polishing pad line developed by PAI Cristal, an Italian manufacturer with roots in the marine and composite finishing industry. PAI Cristal spent decades perfecting surface correction for some of the most demanding materials in the world, gelcoat, carbon fiber, and marine composites, before bringing that same engineering precision to automotive paint care. The result is a lineup of foam and wool pads built to an exceptionally high standard of foam density, velcro adhesion, heat management, and durability.
What separates PAICAR pads from generic alternatives is the way each pad in the DA series is formulated as a matched system alongside PAICAR polishing compounds. The open-cell foam structure on every pad is not just there for comfort, it actively dissipates heat during extended polishing sessions to protect the paint surface and keep the foam performing consistently from the first panel to the last. The 25mm thickness across the DA range is also deliberate, improving operator control, reducing vibration, and making it easier to work complex curves and tight body lines without overworking any single area.
The House of Rags carries all four DA foam pads and the SL3 Fine Wool Pad. The DA-01 Red is the hardest foam in the lineup, built for maximum cut on heavily damaged paint with deep scratches and severe oxidation. The DA-02 Orange is a medium-hard pad designed for fast, effective defect removal and the go-to choice for moderate correction work where you need real cut without sacrificing finish quality. The DA-03 Blue is a medium-soft pad optimized for hologram removal, fine scratch correction, and final multi-stage refinement, delivering a high-gloss finish straight off the machine. The DA-04 Green is the softest foam pad in the range, built for extra-fine polishing, finish-stage work, and sealant or wax application on already-corrected paint. The SL3 Fine Wool Pad steps outside the foam system entirely, using fine lambswool fibers to deliver fast, aggressive cutting power for heavily damaged or harder paint surfaces with less heat buildup than a comparable foam pad could manage.
The four DA pads follow a clear progression from most to least aggressive: DA-01 Red for heavy correction, DA-02 Orange for moderate correction, DA-03 Blue for light correction and hologram removal, and DA-04 Green for final finishing and product application. You do not need to use all four on every car. Start by assessing the paint condition and choosing the least aggressive pad that will achieve your correction goal. A mildly swirled single-stage paint might only need the DA-03 and DA-04. A heavily scratched neglected finish might require starting at the DA-01 and working down. Using a more aggressive pad than necessary just adds unnecessary polishing stages, so always start conservatively and step up only if needed.

Use the SL3 when you are dealing with heavy defects that would take too long to correct with foam, or when working on harder paint systems where foam pads struggle to generate enough cut without excessive machine passes. Fine wool fibers provide a more aggressive cutting action than even the DA-01 Red foam, while the natural wool structure allows better airflow and heat dissipation than foam at high speeds. After correcting with the SL3, always follow up with the appropriate DA foam pad to refine the surface and remove any wool-induced haze before finishing.

The DA pads are designed to work at their best when paired with their corresponding PAICAR polishing compounds, which are formulated to match the specific density and cut level of each pad. That said, the pads are made from high-quality open-cell foam that performs well with other professional-grade compounds. If you are using a non-PAICAR compound, match the pad aggressiveness to the compound's cut rating as a starting point and adjust from there based on results.

PAICAR foam pads are wash-resistant and easy to clean. Between panels during a session, knock out dried compound residue using a pad cleaning brush or pad spur while the machine is running at low speed. After the full job, wash pads under warm water working the foam gently to release compound residue, or use a dedicated pad washing machine for a deeper clean. Allow pads to air dry fully before storing them flat. Do not wring or compress the foam to dry it as this can damage the cell structure and reduce consistency over time.

The PAICAR DA foam pads and SL3 Wool Pad are available in 5-inch and 6-inch sizes to suit both compact and full-size dual-action polishers. All pads use a high-grade velcro backing that provides consistent, long-lasting adhesion to standard 5-inch and 6-inch backing plates. If you are unsure which size matches your polisher, check your backing plate diameter before ordering.
